Breathtaking decorations? Terraced bar overlooking a river? Crystal chandeliers? Check, check, and check.
When it comes to taking it to the next level, this wedding at the Hunter Museum of American Art exceeded expectations. With downtown Chattanooga as the backdrop through enormous windows lining the north face of the building, the reception spread over two floors and terraces in the Hunter.
As guests arrived through the glass doors of the museum they climbed a spiral staircase to a rooftop terrace for pre-dinner cocktails. An early spring/winter flashback turned the day chilly, but ivory fleece blankets (monogrammed by the bride herself!) kept everyone festively warm.
Guests ushered back inside and past a photo booth to welcome the bride and groom and find seats overlooking the Tennessee River glittering with the setting sun. With bronze, abstract, sculptures hanging from the ceiling above us and a million and one perfectly coordinated details all around, I had the feeling that time had stopped for a moment. As Chattanooga went about its business, we had entered a fairyland of sparkling gold and glittering crystal.
I walked outside to watch the sunset and looking back at the Hunter saw the shadowy figures of the people inside moving through the fairyland. While fairytales come to an end, we trust that the love story we witnessed that evening will continue for a lifetime. Congratulations and best wishes to the happy couple!
